The 2025 Midlands Sustainability Excellence Awards recognise businesses and organisations across the region that are making lasting, positive contributions to environmental sustainability. This may include reducing energy consumption, transitioning to renewable sources, significantly cutting emissions or waste, or influencing wider networks, such as supply chains, employees, tenants, or industry peers, to prioritise environmental goals as a catalyst for change.
Established by TheBusinessDesk.com, in collaboration with Deloitte and Edgbaston Park Hotel, the awards build on the success of their launch in Yorkshire and now provide a platform to celebrate sustainability leadership in the Midlands.
Winners will be announced at an exclusive lunch at Edgbaston Park Hotel on Friday 23 May 2025.
Sustainability is core focus for Lodders, and securing our new Birmingham office has been a huge step forward in reducing our environmental impact.
The building holds an EPC A rating and features cutting-edge sustainability measures designed to improve efficiency, from new domestic water services, which feature localised, energy-efficient hot water generation, to integrated PIR lighting controls with passive motion sensors.
The office also benefits from enhanced insulation and mechanical and electrical upgrades, helping us reduce waste and lower operational emissions. Plus, to encourage green commuting, we have secure cycle storage, showers, and lockers, alongside motorbike and cycling spaces.
The new office has set the standard for future improvements across our firm. Find out more about our journey to 1 Newhall Street here.
While our newer offices are designed with sustainability in mind, Lodders is also upgrading our older buildings; recent changes, such as boiler, insulation, and lighting upgrades, have cut 10 tonnes of CO₂e emissions in the past year. Our Stratford office is currently being renovated, with eco-friendly measures at the heart of the design.
Beyond our buildings, Lodders has taken steps to reduce our overall carbon footprint and promote sustainable working practices.
Sustainability is embedded in our culture, driven by our dedicated operational team that oversees our environmental, social, and governance strategy. The team continuously seeks ways to enhance our sustainability efforts, ensuring these principles are fully integrated into Lodders’ operations.
While this team leads our environmental initiatives, real progress is achieved through the collective commitment of Lodders’ people. Everyone plays a role in making small, meaningful changes in their daily work. To reinforce this, we actively participate in initiatives together, for example planting 400 trees for the Heart of England Forest. The organisation supporting this particular project estimates our contribution could store 29–37 tonnes of CO₂e, equating to 10–13% of our overall carbon footprint.
These initiatives not only help offset our emissions but also serve as a powerful reminder that while individual actions matter, we can make a far greater impact when we work together.
Across our offices, we have made simple yet effective changes. Motion-sensor LED lighting minimises energy waste, while improved insulation and climate control reduce unnecessary heating and cooling. We also ensure our electricity is sourced from renewable providers.
We are actively reducing waste, transitioning to a paperless office through digital document management and e-signature software like DocuSign. Any remaining paper use is from sustainable sources, and our zero-waste-to-landfill policy ensures responsible disposal.
To reduce travel-related emissions, we offer a cycle-to-work scheme for employees within commuting distance. For those who drive, our EV car scheme enables staff to lease electric vehicles through salary sacrifice. To support this shift, we have installed EV charging points at our offices.
Being shortlisted for the 2025 Midlands Sustainability Excellence Awards is a testament to Lodders’ commitment to building a greener future. We look forward to celebrating alongside fellow finalists at the award ceremony next month!
