In this, our sixth issue, we take a look back at the history of Moreton Show, one of the largest single-day agricultural events in the UK, which celebrates its 70th show this year. We also explore the topics covered in our inaugural Rural Conference, where the future of farming and the opportunities and challenges faced by rural businesses were discussed.
From a legal perspective, we look at the risks of not having a written partnership agreement, as well as the importance of succession planning in the face of rising reports of proprietary estoppel cases.
Also in this issue, we highlight a number of our clients that we are fortunate enough to work with, including Norton College, a unique education programme that removes the barriers to education for challenged young people, who opened their second college in Tewkesbury in September 2018.
Finally, we share with you some news from the Lodders camp, including the growth of our Corporate and Commercial team and an update on the Lodders Charitable Foundation.
As always, we have thoroughly enjoyed putting Lodders Life together and we do hope you enjoy the read.

In this, our fifth issue, we feature some of the interesting businesses that we are fortunate enough to work with, the first of which being C.M. Downton, a fast-growing Gloucestershire logistics company. Additionally, we raise a glass to craft beers with Two Crafty Brewers as well as introducing the Taylor family – a family of three generations, who are working alongside each other on the beautiful 480-hectare Swalcliffe estate.
From a legal perspective, we look at how land-based businesses could stand to benefit after a recent case involving tax, why a High Court decision could open doors for developers, and why businesses using ‘gig workers’ have recently been warned to check the employment status of their workforce.
Also in this issue, we will be introducing you to our new managing partner, Paul Mourton. Paul shares his exciting plans for the future, building on the many achievements of our outgoing managing partner Rod Bird, who hands over the reins after 17 years in the position.
Finally, we share with you some people news from the Lodders camp, including a big welcome to our new family law team following our merger with Divorce and Family Law Practice.
